What is a Sanarium®?

Gentle saunas are in vogue. And quite rightly so. After all, the gentle heat has many health benefits. The Sanarium® is a modification of the classic Finnish sauna. In the Sanarium®, the decisive difference from the Finnish sauna is a lower regulated temperature and humidity.

A visit to the Sanarium® is good for the heart and the circulation

Sanarium® is a registered trademark of the KLAFS company. They had this concept protected for a good reason. After all, saunas with high humidity and low temperatures are in vogue, and not just among people who have problems with their circulation. Everyone benefits from the mild temperatures, and sauna beginners find it easy to take their first step onto the wooden bench. We’ve taken a look around and compiled everything you need to know about the Sanarium®. We’ll tell you why it’s worth it – and how you can benefit most from it.

What makes the Sanarium® so special?

You won’t be surprised to learn that there are saunas with relatively low room temperatures. Every self-respecting spa now has one. But these are often just saunas, where it doesn’t get that hot. The Sanarium® is different. Like the other mild sweat lodges, the temperature is between 50 and 60 degrees (122 – 140 °F). The highlight is the humidity, which is between 40 and 50 percent. That’s about as high as in the rainforest. In addition, infusions with essential oils take place in these gentle saunas. They provide a special feel-good aroma.

In addition, in this, sweat lodge is often combined with colored lights. Special lamps bathe the room in colorful lights. The colors can have a positive influence on body and mind.

Gentle and healthy

We have already mentioned that this type of sauna is extremely gentle on the circulation. This is due to the low temperatures. As in any other sweat lodge, the arteries dilate in the heat and contract again in the colder air. This exercises the tissue, and the vessels become more elastic over time. This is definitely an intended effect.

However, it can be too intense for people who suffer from serious problems. Because the temperatures in this type of sauna only rise up to 60 degrees, (140 °F) it is weakened – and people with cardiovascular problems can enjoy the healthy pleasure. The arteries are trained nevertheless, but evenly in a very gentle way. In this way, circulatory problems can be alleviated.

Relaxation for body and soul in the Sanarium®

Just as in the other sweat lodges, a visit to this sauna improves the immune system. The heat plays a trick on the body. It develops a kind of fever and forms antibodies against pathogens that are not even there. These antibodies can be stored for a certain period of time – and the body’s defenses are strengthened. If you visit the sauna regularly, you’re sure to come through the next wave of flu in good health.

And yes, the mere 60 degrees (140 °F) also have a relaxing effect on body and mind. The relaxation will be especially appreciated by those who suffer from back pain. They are significantly relieved after the first visit. Muscles and ligaments relax in the heat, and those pesky knots loosen up. A wonderful feeling. People with rheumatic diseases will also benefit from the minutes spent in the pleasant warmth. The symptoms are significantly alleviated. You can read more about the medical background in this article.

And of course, the metabolism is also boosted in the gentle heat. This again has to do with the fact that the vessels dilate in the heat. As a result, the blood flows faster – and in this way annoying toxins are also eliminated.

Who is right in the Sanarium®?

The answer to this question is very simple: everyone. Sure, the sauna is a good gateway drug for people with physical limitations and sauna beginners. But professionals will also benefit from the gentle warmth – if they get involved in the experience. And then it’s simply incredible. The room temperature of 50 to 60 degrees (122 – 140 °F) allows you to sit in the warm room for up to half an hour. Completely relaxed, without having to suffer too much. Perhaps an opportunity for good conversation with the best sauna buddy. And if the bath attendant also makes a fragrant infusion – a wellness dream.

Frequently asked questions

Where does the term sanarium come from?

The name “Sanarium” was registered as a trademark by the Klafs company. It is legally protected as a trademark by a patent owned by the company. In everyday language, the terms bio-sauna and sanarium are often used synonymously. Low temperature and pleasant humidity are other characteristics of a bio-sauna.

How does the Klafs Sanarium work?

Those who find conventional saunas too hot or too dry can now combine the beneficial effects of saunas with those of steam baths, thus combining the best of both worlds. With the KLAFS SANARIUM®, you can transform your sauna into five different types of baths. The SANARIUM® can transform your sauna into a tropical bath, a warm air bath, a gentle steam bath, or a herbal bath, depending on what you’re in the mood for.

So each time you use it, you can choose the type of bath that best suits your state of mind. Try to set the temperature to around 60 degrees Celsius (140 °F) and the humidity to no more than 55 percent if you want to create an environment that is particularly conducive to relaxation and a positive state of mind.

How long can I stay in the sanarium?

The time spent in the sanarium can be up to 30 minutes due to the mild temperature. After visiting the sanarium, you should take some time to relax and recover. The respiratory system will be soothed, and the circulation will be spared.

Can I convert my KLAFS sauna into a sanarium?

The SANARIUM® is compatible with almost all KLAFS sauna models. At first glance, a SANARIUM with SaunaPUR® resembles a “normal” sauna, but the feeling of relaxation that a SANARIUM provides is incomparable. By using an aroma goblet, it is possible to scent the cabin with aromatized steam.
