How does the sauna affect the hair?

But at this point we can give a cautious all-clear, at least as long as your hair is healthy and not dyed. Then you can use the sauna day to take care of your mane. We tell you how to get the best for you from this point of view.

Nutrients are better absorbed

In the heat, a simple rule applies: the pores dilate. This applies to the skin just as much as it does to the hair. It also means that they are able to absorb nutrients far better than they would otherwise. Use the sauna day to apply a hair mask, for example. We’ll tell you more about that later.

But be careful

As good as it is that the heat widens your pores, it can also be dangerous. Where nutrients can get in, they can also get out. In plain language, this means that the hair loses moisture, which makes it dry and brittle. This is especially true for hair that has been colored or otherwise treated. They have already left a lot of moisture during beautification. To make matters worse, the effect of the sauna lasts. You will certainly rub your hair dry after showering. At this point, the pores have not yet closed completely and are roughened by the towel. As a result, they look dull.

The right care after the sauna

But you can also use this effect. Do not rub your hair dry, but apply a treatment or mask. However, you should not sit in the sauna with it on, as the pores are already sufficiently dilated. Find a nice deck chair in the relaxation area and let the products work in here. After the specified time, rinse the care thoroughly with lukewarm water.

Another tip

Afterward, you should neither towel your hair nor sauna it again. The latter would again widen the pores, which are slowly closing. All the care substances would then simply end up in the towel with the sweat. Just go back to the relaxation room and wait for your hair to dry. Afterward, you should refrain from blow-drying if possible. The dry heat would be very harmful to your mane. If you can, it is advisable to go home with slightly damp hair – and the next day they will shine beautifully. In winter, a cotton cap will provide optimal protection from the cold.
