Correct sauna – How to do it! Instructions for beginners
How sauna beginners learn to sweat properly. If any illnesses are present, whether the visit to the sauna is basically safe in individual cases, a doctor should be asked for advice before the first visit to the sauna. Beginners should also immediately familiarize themselves with the idea of always entering the sauna cabin unclothed. In addition, it is crucial to take a proper shower before entering the sauna. This is not only for hygienic reasons, but also serves to remove any irritating greasy film on the skin.
No sweat on the wood
After the shower, it is then necessary to dry the entire body well, because damp skin does not sweat as well as dry skin. To proceed as gently as possible, sauna beginners should enjoy a warm foot bath beforehand. This acclimatizes the organism and optimally prepares it for the heat in the sauna cabin.
Any stay in a sauna is always for rest and relaxation, so it is important to be quite inside the sauna cabin at all times. In many sauna cabins there is a written notice “No sweat on the wood“. It is therefore obligatory to place a bath towel, as large as possible, on the place where you sit or lie down, so that there is no skin at all directly on the wood.
Leave the sauna if you feel unwell
In a sauna, there are different heat zones, so it is much hotter on the upper sauna benches. Beginners are therefore recommended to prefer benches in the middle or even lower rows of seats. Those who are lying down should not get up abruptly and leave the sauna cabin immediately, but should first move from the lying to the sitting position and remain there for up to 5 minutes.
This is the best way to prevent fainting spells or dizziness. The good advice to trust your own body feeling is not only valid for beginners. So if for any reason you do not feel well, you should leave the sauna cabin early.
Cool down well after the sauna and take a shower
Normally, a sauna bath lasts between 9 and 15 minutes, experience shows that 15 minutes should not be exceeded. In infusion saunas, a pre-sweat phase of up to 10 minutes is followed by an infusion phase lasting up to about 8 minutes. After that, a post-sweat phase of about 2 minutes should be observed.
During the infusion, the sauna should not be entered or left. After leaving the sauna cabin, please first cool the respiratory tract in the fresh air, for at least 2 minutes and also do not forget to shower. A warm foot bath will prevent the body from sweating again.
No alcohol after the sauna
Drinking should only take place after the last sauna session, but then please do not drink alcoholic beverages, but ideally mineral water or fruit juice spritzers. Between the individual sauna sessions, a sufficient rest period should be observed after the cool-down phase.
