What helps against the hangover the next morning?

Well, yesterday again looked too deep into the glass? Then you are probably now plagued by a thick hangover and you are looking for an antidote. Well, we have some bad news for you: there is no such remedy. But that’s no reason to despair. You can alleviate the symptoms. For example, sauna helps against hangover. But there are a few things to keep in mind. We explain exactly how to get rid of headaches in the heat. We’ll also tell you what else helps.

What is a hangover?

This well-known phenomenon is the result of excessive alcohol consumption. It is not easy to say when the symptoms start. It depends on how much a person is used to alcohol. The respective form of the day also plays a huge role. If you’ve been going very wild, your performance can even be limited for up to three days.

You certainly know the symptoms: headache, nausea, trembling, lack of concentration and limited performance. In very severe cases, there is also memory loss, the so-called film break. All of this is not particularly pleasant. Scientists have not yet clarified exactly where the symptoms come from. It is assumed that they are a reaction to the breakdown of alcohol. What is certain is that the simultaneous consumption of alcohol and nicotine only makes everything worse.

Myths surrounding hangover relief

You’ve probably heard that you can sweat out the rest of the booze. That would be too good to be true. After all, the symptoms can probably be attributed to the breakdown of the toxin. If you could sweat it all out, you wouldn’t be plagued by headaches or nausea. But we have to disappoint you. The body is indeed capable of eliminating toxins through sweat. But this does not apply to alcohol. Alcohol is only present in the blood – and fortunately you don’t lose that when you sweat.

Sweating helps anyway

But the sauna still helps you get through the day. It is well known that sweating stimulates the circulation. This is because the arteries dilate in the heat and contract again in the cold. This provides an instant energy boost for the entire body. All organs are better supplied with blood. This fights, among other things, those nasty headaches and leaden fatigue.

In addition, you have time to relax in the bath. This gives your organism a chance to deal with the consequences of last night. This won’t make the symptoms go away, but it will make them more bearable. It is also possible that you will overcome the hangover more quickly if you get enough rest.

What you should pay attention to

Do not overwork your body, because it is already suffering enough. In plain language: sauna yes, but please not too hot. Even experienced sauna-goers should stop at 80 degrees. You should also avoid infusions. If you feel a little unwell, you should leave the sauna. In addition, you should not cool down too much after your sauna session. That would also be poison for your battered organism today. It is better to take a lukewarm shower after the sweat bath.

We don’t need to mention that you should drink enough during your sauna visit. But it is especially important the day after the big party. Your body already lacks fluids and minerals. You should compensate for this deficiency with mineral water.

What else you can do

Grandma still has a few effective anti-hangover tips at the ready. Because the old lady also suffered from the symptoms when she overdid it again – and had the right home remedy against it. The most effective of these remedies is still water. You should drink as much as you can. Because last night’s drinks have deprived your body of a lot of fluid. In addition, you help your kidneys to detoxify better.

Mineral boost with rollmops

The thing with the rollmops also has a scientific background. We have already mentioned that your body lacks salt. And you replenish it with fatty rollmops. If you don’t like it, potato chips are just as good.

Caffeine and vitamin C

Caffeine will also help you get back up to speed. It dilates the blood vessels and the entire organism is better supplied with blood. Grandma will also have told you that vitamin C helps. This is also true. It’s best taken in combination with a mild painkiller, Alka Seltzer for example.

Avoid the hangover

Surely you will also wonder how to avoid the whole thing. Well, the simplest tip is to drink only non-alcoholic things. We also know that this is no fun. But you can still prevent the hangover. Drink a glass of water after every drink. This has two effects. Firstly, you supply your body with sufficient fluids. Second, you slow down your drinking speed.
