Why can’t I take my cell phone into the sauna?

As a sauna fan, you have probably asked yourself this question at some point. After all, smartphones and the like are banned in most sauna facilities. The reason is not immediately obvious to many.

The cell phone has no place in the sauna

Why can’t I take my cell phone into the sauna? The bath operators are mainly concerned with preventing photos from being taken. Today, every model, no matter how inexpensive, has a corresponding function. Even if this reason is good enough, there is more. After all, your cell phone would also suffer sensitive damage in the heat. We have collected four reasons for you why you should do without the mini-computer in the heat.

1. The little things are damn expensive

Do you know what your cell phone would cost on the market? If you didn’t get it on a contract, you probably do. To all others, let me tell you: 500 euros is the minimum you’ll have to pay. If the little pocket computer now gets damaged in the heat, the money is simply gone. The manufacturers did not build the sensitive devices for these extreme conditions. If something happens now, you can’t hope that the damage will be repaired under warranty.

For you, that means paying. Because even if you received your cell phone under a contract, it will not be replaced in this case. So you have to get a new device at your own expense in order to use the expensive services of your provider. So that’s reason enough to leave your smartphone in the locker room, right?

2. It gets damn hot in the sauna

It doesn’t matter if you go to the sauna or the infrared cabin: It gets damn hot. For you and your body, that’s good. We have already explained the health benefits of saunas to you several times and in detail. But it’s not at all good for sensitive technology. Apple, for example, specifies an optimum operating temperature of between 0 and 35 degrees for its iPhone. If it gets significantly warmer, the posh manufacturer does not guarantee that the smartphone will function properly.

Worse still, it could even suffer damage. And now we take another look at the manufacturer’s recommendations: maximum 35 degrees. It gets considerably warmer in the sweat room. The thermometer can climb up to 100 degrees. These high temperatures are pure poison for the sensitive technology. Something is bound to malfunction afterward. Above all, the battery could be damaged in this case – and the warranty no longer applies.

3. Water everywhere

Adding to the high temperatures is the humidity. The most obvious is the many pools. If the smartphone were to fall in here, it would be ruined. This is not only due to the water. The brine added to most sauna baths would also do harm. This is pure salt. It would cause metal to corrode. And quite a bit of a smartphone is made of metal.

In addition, we are dealing with moisture, which you don’t see at first glance. Such a sauna is heated with the help of a stove. The scent is provided by a liquid that enters the cabin in a variety of ways, but in any case via a liquid. This, of course, also rises into the air, otherwise it would not smell. So there are many small, almost invisible drops of water whizzing through the room. They are so fine that they can easily get inside your smartphone. There, they settle on the components – and ruin the phone.

Of course, the warranty expires in this case as well. Especially since most manufacturers have a moisture sensor built in, which reveals the incorrect handling.

4. Mobile phone waves are harmful to health

How harmful are the rays that our smartphones emit in such a way, is controversial. What is certain, however, is that they are not good for health. And a modern phone like this emits a lot of radiation: it tries to maintain a connection to the mobile network provider, the Bluetooth module is always on the lookout for accessories, and the device is also constantly on the lookout for WLAN. Why not treat yourself to a break from all this harmful radiation while taking a sauna? You should also think about the other guests. They deserve a radiation-free day just as much as you do. So leave the little box at home.

Treat yourself to a time-out in the sauna, not only from the rays, but also from the other stress that the smartphone brings with it. Use the time in the pleasant warmth to relax without being reminded of your duties. You’ll see that a few hours offline will do you good. And if you can’t help it: leave your smartphone in the locker room and only glance at it from time to time. The other bathers and the sensitive technology will thank you.

Conclusion

There are several reasons why cell phones have no place in the sauna. First and foremost, operators are concerned with preventing photography. In addition, cell phones are sensitive to heat and can be damaged at high temperatures. The cost of repairing or replacing a damaged cell phone must be borne by the owner. In addition, there is high humidity in the sauna, which promotes moisture penetration into the device. This can lead to corrosion and damage to the sensitive components.

In addition, cell phones emit electromagnetic radiation, the health effects of which are controversial. Going to the sauna is a great way to get away from these rays and enjoy some relaxing time without the stress and distraction of your smartphone. Ultimately, it is advisable to leave the cell phone in the locker room and focus on the sauna experience and the health benefits of taking a sauna.
